I’ve missed two fights in this tournament, but I’m not about to miss the final round this time around. You can see what I was doing by going through this week’s postings, but I’m here now. Also of note is that for the first time in a while I didn’t get one vote, much less win a round. I’m thinking it’s time to break out one of the big guns. Ones I’ve been saving for special occasions.
And tonight involved cloning, or the Dark Side version of it. It’s the fight to end all fights…until the next fight. Who is competing? I’ll give you and Spacebooger a hint.
The Final Round
The Battlefield: Star Wars Tales #9, “Resurrection” (Dark Horse Comics, September 2001–kind of fitting)
The Promoters: Ron Marz (writer), Rick Leonardi (penciler), Terry Austin (inker), Raul Trevino (letter), and Steve Dutro (letterer)
So a group of Dark Side worshipers believe that since Darth Vader used to be the Jedi Anakin Skywalker, he still has a spark of the light in him (apparently we didn’t watch the same sequels, because in the last two movies, I recall a whiny psycho who kills kids without blinking). Then then lure Vader into (insert Ackbar here).
But who would have the power to challenge the apprentice of Darth Sidious, the Emperor?
Yes, they resurrected (or possibly just cloned) Darth Maul! Instead of swapping stories about being chopped up by Obi-Wan, they decide to not be friends.
The result is an epic fight that hasn’t been seen since this:
Yes, I’m going for Spaceballs bonus points.
I can’t show you the whole fight, since it takes up the majority of a 64 page comic, but here are some of the highlights.
This is the set-up for the killing blow. Which Darth delivers it?
As for the bad guys, it’s the Emperor who takes them out. But really, that’s just wrapping up the story. We just saw the big one. If you can find a copy of this comic, buy it! It is that darn good a fight!
