The Borg and Cybermen jointly attack Delta. The prime minister escapes and calls for help from Starfleet. In Egypt, the Doctor and his married companions expose an alien infiltration when the Doctor appears to sense the dimensional disturbance and takes the TARDIS to the alternate universe and San Francisco. Then again, this is the Doctor.
What they got right: I don’t think this is just a set-up story. It seems to be introducing the Doctor Who characters to the Star Trek fans who may not know the British sci-fi series as well. So although it reads more like a Doctor Who story that may not be such a bad thing. Besides, IDW is taking advantage of having both properties to bring this fanfic to life so how much arguing can you really do?
What they got wrong: Oh no, not the painted art style again. STOP USING THIS IN COMICS! It’s not that the art is bad; it’s just bad for comics. You can’t get the moment-by-moment facial expressions and poses done well in this style, although this comes pretty close. It’s an improvement over the Wrath of Khan adaptation or the end of the previous Transformers ongoing.
Recommendation: I really can’t say. This is a glorified fanfic and fans have made this crossover for years. This might be decent, but it might be more like the movie version of Aliens Vs. Predator than the comic version. There really isn’t enough in this issue to tell you how well the mini will do and unless you want the tail end of a Doctor adventure there’s nothing to recommend on its own merits.
