Robotech: The Macross Saga #14
Comico The Comic Company (September, 1986)
“Gloval’s Report”
ADAPTATION: Jack Herman
PENCILER: Mike Leeke
INKER: Keith Wilson
COLORIST: Kurt Mausert
LETTERER: Bob Pinaha
EDITOR: Diana Schutz
Finally having a moment to breathe, Captain Gloval makes out a report to the RDF brass, detailing the events that led them to Pluto and a galactic quest to return home. He also chronicles the battles with the Zentraedi and what little they’ve learned about their enemy. He also takes time to acknowledge Lisa’s various efforts as well as Dr. Lang’s, which I thought was nice.
Well, this seems to be my week for ignoring the format. This was basically a clip show, and while I know some of you have problems with those (check back in tonight for my commentary on clip shows, using this episode as a starting point since I’m reviewing the comic adaptation) this is the fourteenth issue of the comic. People may have come in late to the series and not seen the show, so this serves as catch up for missing issues. Additionally, Gloval doesn’t really focus on the relationship issues since the brass wouldn’t care and he probably doesn’t know much about Lisa’s relationship with Lt. Hunter, whatever it may be at this time. It’s a good point to just focus on the combat stuff and less on the romance.
I do like that the flashbacks don’t just use panels from the previous issues but are brand new art, using curved angles for the panels to represent Gloval’s report while using the usual corners for shots of the captain giving the report. It’s a good visual cue as to when they are and aren’t in flashback. Today you can collect the whole series if you can find them and just go back through the issues but this isn’t a bad summary of events thus far, serving as a decent jumping-on point for the comic.

“Gloval’s Report” is a good way to summarize what has happened so far in Robotech Macross. I had no problem with this comic book issue.I feel that issue #14 was done right.

Oh….I just noticed the joke you placed under Issue #14’s cover that references what happened to Gloval in Titan’s Robotech comic series! That’s very clever on your part, Tronix!
