At least that’s the claim by comic writer Joe Hill, who watched the show with his kids and wanted to write a story for it. Apparently even getting Neil Gaiman’s help wasn’t enough. Someone in the comments said it might be a cultural thing but I wonder if they’d at least let him write one of the comics, since he created a popular horror comic? Does the same rule apply to novels or Big Finish dramas? At least he’d have a chance to write for the Doctor he and his sons started watching together with.
In my view an American can write for Doctor Who, just like how a British person, a Japanese person, etc., can write for Star Trek or Star Wars. What matters is the writer’s knowledge of the particular series.
