We take a break from the Comic-Con highlights (and lowlights) to bring you another installment of my telling you what comics I plan to get this week. As we’ve seen, that doesn’t always pan out. However, there is one bit of Comic-Con news I think I’m now able to tell you concerning ComiXology, the site I use to help out with the Pull List and This Week’s Reviews.
There are some new features, as you’ll see on the top of the page. Discussion groups, profiles, and in addition to making a “pull list” you can also “subscribe” to various titles you get every week, rather than trying to hunt them down every month. I already have my profile up. Just look for “BW Media” or “ShadowWing Tronix”. You can see my pull list up there as well, and you’ll know when I add the spoiler-edited version of the reviews up there. Now if I can remember to check with WordPress about getting along with the site so I can post stuff here. Until then, the format here is the same.
Marvel Adventures: Spider-Man #48 [Marvel]
I still haven’t decided to hit the “subscribe” button or get in my folder at the comic store, but I am still pulling it off the shelf. They are fun stories, and this one starts off with Peter less than miserable about his life. That’s a start right there. Also he’ll be dealing with Scorpion and Electro at the same time, but I don’t know if it’s a team-up or just two different problems he has to deal with. Still seem interesting. It’s nice to see a fun Spidey story can still be written instead of the heavy soap opera drama, complete with people not staying dead.
Marvel Adventures Super Heroes #8 [Marvel]
Speaking of formats, this series has gone from the “movie three” in wacky situations to a sort of Secret Origins/Uncanny Origins type title with revolving writers. This time we see Captain America waking up in the modern world. The preview doesn’t have the Avengers waking him up, which is right since Adv. Cap helped create the group. This should be a good one.
The Phantom: The Ghost Who Walks #0 [Moonstone]
Apparently this is the start of the new direction for Moonstone’s take on Lee Falk’s classic costumed hero. I’m not sure what’s in store, but considering the talent involved, I’m taking a positive outlook on it. I should ask Hube if David Micheline mentioned in the interview he did with him that Micheline would be working on the Phantom, although not as a writer.
So head to ComiXology and check on all the goodies. Tomorrow it’s back to Comic-Con to see what all the other comic companies have planned. As for the List and Sunday’s reviews, note that there are still some comics I should be getting late, so it may end up a longer review. That depends on how fast Diamond can replace those Adventure #0’s they shorted my local store, and what I have available should those other comics from last week show up.
