I don’t “do” April Fools Day (when your a target for evil pranks throughout a good chunk of your school life, you don’t believe in “good” ones), so it’s no joke. The Pull List has gone monthly, and I’m hoping to have a logo by next month. So I’m giving up my “I know what’s getting posted here” defense against writer’s block in favor of another day of articles (to keep up with news postings, analysis, reviews, and some other stuff).

As far as the weekly edition, you’ll find it on my sidebar. As of this posting and theme (“Vigilance” by Destro), it’s in the right hand sidebar, the split one where I keep all my link stuff (RSS feeds and blogroll), so you can keep up. I’ll confirm with Diamond’s listings, which update Mondays at 5pm eastern time, and then change it to reflect the new list. So you can still keep up on what I think is coming. However, with 6 comics still at the store, and 3 coming out of this week, I probably still won’t be caught up by review time. But here are the comics you can (hopefully) see reviewed in the next few Sundays.

Billy Batson and the Magic of Shazam! #4 [DC, this week]

Written by Mike Kunkel ; Cover and art by Mike Kunkel
This is it: the exciting conclusion to the face-off between Captain Marvel and Black Adam! With Black Adam back to full power and four of the seven Evils still at his side, Billy and Mary need to team up to figure a way to defeat him. All this, plus a trip to the Rock of Eternity!
Written by Mike Kunkel Art and cover by Mike Kunkel
Strange things are happening, and Captain Marvel is pretty sure it has something to do with a certain crazy doctor! With the help of two sentient cockroaches, Dr. Sivana has recently escaped from Fawcett City Penitentiary and set out to take over the world. Using the one skill he has – being a mad scientist – Sivana creates a robotic mayhem on the city of Fawcett. But he needs more power, and it would appear that his archenemies Captain Marvel and Mary Marvel might be just what the doctor ordered.

I decided to put these two together. So we’re getting the end of the Black Adam arc, and the beginning of the Billy Batson version of Doctor Sivana. That’s considering Kunkle is able to keep up. (As reported here, at Comic-Con it was mentioned that he’s been having trouble getting the time to put the comic out, and he’s not happy about it. Considering  how late some comics are with no good explanation at all, KEVIN SMITH, that’s a step up.) I’m interested to see his version of the not-so-good doctor, after his re-imagining of Theo as something other than Black Adam without the Marvel powers, but with black magic instead.

The next two comics come out this week as well.

The Transformers Spotlight: Jazz [IDW]

By Reyk and Knowler
Stranded, outgunned and outnumbered, AUTOBOT special operative JAZZ will need every bit of his training if he is going to make it out of this one alive! As things go from bad to utterly hopeless, what chance do JAZZ and his (unwilling) compatriot have, when they’re being tracked by the DECEPTICONS’ most ruthless warriors – THE PREDACONS?

I have no clue who the creative team is, but Jazz is one of my favorites when it comes to Transformers characters. (I’m trying to decide if I like the G1 or Animated version better, but I’m leading towards Animated.) Despite my issues with Furman, I do know it can be worse, so we’ll see what happens.

Transformers: Maximum Dinbots #4 [IDW]

By Simon Furman
The Dinobots’ unexpected allies make their presence felt, joining forces with them for an all-out assault on SCORPONOK in the very heart of his Machination stronghold in Dallas. Meanwhile, HOT ROD wants out! SUNSTREAKER wants in! SHOCKWAVE wants to deal! It’s the beginning of the end – in more ways than one!

I’m assuming either by this issue’s end, or the Coda miniseries up next, we’ll find out how Hunter ended up in Sunstreaker’s spot. However, now reading this comic will be like the Star Wars prequel. We know he’s going to betray the Autobots, leave Hunter to suffer, and hope the rest of humanity follows all because of one small group of jackasses. I’m not rooting for him so much now. Also, shouldn’t the Dinobots factor more in their own miniseries?

Supergirl: Cosmic Adventures in the Eighth Grade #4 [DC]

Written by Landry Q. Walker Art and cover by Eric Jones
It’s graduation day, and things couldn’t be more complicated! The whole gang is here, and the cosmic craziness is about to get way out of hand!

Only one more issue after this. This saddens me so much. I know I’m going to need a 12 step program for this one.

April 15

For some odd reason, two Marvel Free Comic Book Day titles are listed coming out for this week. I’ll ignore them. I also added them in prior to declaring 616 dead to me, so I may end up not getting them. There’s also one from Mirage listed for the following week. Somebody’s gotten something wrong somewhere in the pipeline, because they won’t be available until Free Comic Book Day, which is May 2nd (mark your calendars).

Marvel Adventures: Super Heroes #10 [Marvel]

COVER BY: Clayton Henry  WRITER: Todd Dezago  PENCILS: Matteo Lolli  INKS: Christian Dalla Vecchia  COLORED BY: Chris Sotomayor  LETTERED BY: Dave Sharpe
ANT-MAN is On The JOB!!’-Well, he’s LOOKING for a job, anyway…But his employment is put on hold when the insidious SANDMAN crosses his path-and ANT-MAN needs to pull out all the stops to defeat the Granular Goon! And, as ANT-MAN’s popularity rises, so too do the suspicions of Vernon Van Dyne…!

Please, please, do NOT make some kind of story that leads to MA Hank hitting MA Janet! Let him be pure in at least one universe? Also hoping for more ant singalongs. I just wish there was more continuity in the MA titles.

DC Super Friends #14 [DC]

Written by Sholly Fisch; Art by Dario Brizuela; Cover by J. Bone
When the alien Kanjar Ro invades Earth, he freezes all humans so that they won’t mess with him – including the Super Friends! What he doesn’t know is that he’s about to face resistance from their super best friends – the Super Pets!

What with the conversation I’m having with Eric over at the Legacy posting from Monday, the fact that they’re bringing in more characters pretty much retconned out by Brand Ne..sorry, force of habit..I mean Crisis on Infinate Earths is not lost on me. However, I’m very curious to see how this version of Krypto, Streaky, and Ace work in the DCSF comic. I’m not sure we needed Super Monkey, and there are things about Super Horse that, if you know about some of his interactions with Supergirl, are just downright creepy.

Batman: The Brave and the Bold #4 [DC]

Written by Matt Wayne; Art by Andy Suriano & Dan Davis; Cover by Scott Jeralds
Batman knows one must study the past in order to solve the problems of the future, but he never expected to literally be part of history! Now, thanks to the Time Lord known as Rip Hunter, Batman and Aquaman might never return to the present!

Wait, isn’t Scott Jeralds the guy who directed Krypto the Superdog? He’s also an artist? Interesting. I haven’t read #3 yet, due to stuff I’ve already mentioned, but I’m not hearing a lot of good things about it. Still, it should be interesting, but someone needs to tell DC’s copy person that there’s only one Time Lord, and Rip Hunter is no Doctor!

The Incredibles: Family Matters #2 [Boom Studios]

(W) Mark Waid; (A) Marcio Takara

Mark Waid writes The Incredibles! Mr. Incredible faces his most dangerous challenge yet – the loss of his powers! Is it psychological? Is it an alien virus? Is it just old age? Summoning up all courage, Mr. Incredible takes a terrifying trip to Doc Sunbright, an eccentric doctor who treats superheroes! Covers by Sean ‘Cheeks’ Galloway and Marcio Takara, plus a Kirby-inspired incentive cover from Godland artist Tom Scioli!

Do they really have to push Mark Waid’s role in the comic? He’s in the credits list and the blurb! And more variant covers? Why? I haven’t read #1 (we all know why), but I’m still excited about the book. It’s also been selling out, so I’m hoping #2 is in my pull listing at the store.

The Muppet Show #2 [Boom Studios]

Author(s): Roger Langridge Artist(s): Roger Langridge Cover Artist(s): A: Roger Langridge , B: Roger Langridge

Acclaimed creator Roger Landridge continues his madcap romp across The Muppet Show stage! In this hilarious issue, Fozzie’s comedy act is even more terrible than normal! When he asks for Gonzo’s help with his routine, Fozzie might just break more than his funny bone!

Muppet Robin Hood #1

(W) Tim Beedle; (A) Armand Villavert Jr.
The Muppets tell the Robin Hood legend for laughs, and it’s the reader who will be merry! Robin Hood (Kermit the Frog) joins with the Merry Men, Sherwood Forest’s infamous gang of misfit outlaws, to take on the stuffy Sheriff of Muppetham (Sam the Eagle) and the wicked Gonzo of Gisbourne! The 4-issue series features covers from David Peterson, the Eisner Award-winning creator of Mouse Guard, and Shelli Paroline.

blah blah #1…Also selling out, so that’s promising. Boom Studios is off to a good start with the Disney-owned properties (they obtained the Muppet license some years ago).

Marvel Adventures: The Avengers #35 [Marvel]

Written by PAUL TOBIN; Penciled by IG GUARA; Cover by DAVID WILLIAMS
Hawkeye needs a date for an Avengers picnic, but just once he’d like to meet a regular girl who doesn’t punch holes through walls or jet off to Saturn for the weekend. But how does one go about meeting a normal girl when living the life of a super hero? The solution seems to be an online dating service called Lover’s Leap, but when Hawkeye accidentally downloads a wealth of sensitive Avengers information onto the website, which (dang!) turns out to be a scam site run by Batroc the Leaper, it’s going to take the combined fighting might of the Avengers to get Hawkeye out of this jam! Well, at least some of the Avengers. Please don’t tell the others about this, okay?

I think that says it all!

The Phantom: Generations #2 [Moonstone]

(W) Tom DeFalco; (A) Don Hudson
A new maxi series of one shot comic novellas, with each issue, by a different creative team, telling a tale of one of the 21 Phantoms! The jungles drums are beating, calling the tribes to war – a war the second Phantom must prevent to save an innocent life! How will he manage to keep the peace between the pirates and natives who are tearing at each other’s throats, while at the same time make a daring rescue that just may the most important thing he’s ever done?

I’m still waiting for #1 to come out, since I’m pretty sure that’s not one of the ones in my folder. I could be wrong.

Transformers Spotlight: Drift [IDW]

Written by Shane McCarthy; Art by Casey Coller; Covers by Casey Coller, Guido Guidi
This month, the spotlight falls on the newest TRANSFORMER in the universe: DRIFT! Learn how Drift joined the AUTOBOT cause and how he figures into the events unfolding in the pages of All Hail Megatron. Guest-starring the WRECKERS, KUP, and PERCEPTOR. All brought to you by AHM mastermind Shane McCarthy and rising star Casey Coller.

Was Drift ever necessary? Aren’t there a whole bunch of G1 toys that NEVER got anything more than a profile?

Transformers: All Hail Megatron #10 [IDW]

Written by Shane McCarthy; Art by Guido Guidi; Covers by Casey Coller, Trevor Hutchison
Trapped on CYBERTRON, the AUTOBOTS make a desperate stand against the Swarm. Will their lastest ally be enough to…Meanwhile on Earth, MEGATRON attempts to fend off a coup by a fellow DECEPTICON, but a surprise defection could tip the balance.

Well, the sooner we get rid of the Swarm the sooner we can get the whole story back on track. Megatron’s pet project just slowed the story a bit, and are about as needed as Drift. And there’s a traitor in the Decepticons? Gee, I wonder who?

Transformers: Maximum Dinobots #5 [IDW]

Written by Simon Furman; Art by Nick Roche; Covers by Nick Roche and Marcelo Matere
Triumph! Tragedy! This one’s got it all. With one battle won, the greatest challenges remain to be faced. For the Dinobots (minus one!), events come full circle, culminating in an explosive battle for survival. Featuring SUNSTREAKER, HOT ROD, SCORPONOK, SHOCKWAVE, and one other!

I really am a sheep when it comes to Transformers comics.

Transformers (ROTF Prequel): Defiance #4 [IDW]

Written by Chris Mowry; Art by Dan Khanna, Andrew Griffith; Covers by Josh Nizzi, Alex Milne
The explosive conclustion to the official prequel to this summer’s TRANSFORMERS: REVENGE OF THE FALLEN film! With their forces united, the DECEPTICON army prepares to leave CYBERTRON on a mission of galactic conquest. But the AUTOBOTS and their leader, OPTIMUS PRIME, plan to do the unthinkable in order to defeat the increasingly-powerful MEGATRON.

I have this odd sensation that this is going to mess with the Movieverse timeline in my box. This should be the last comic until the Movie adaptation.

_______________________________________________________

Well, it looks like April 29th is going to be a busy week, unless we get some comics pushed up. (The Transformers titles for this week should have been here earlier.) That brings this month’s list to a close. Comments and suggestions about the format and layout are welcome. We’ll see what survives until next month, and what will actually be in during the next few Sundays.
