Fox News, a division of News Corp., has fired longtime entertainment blogger Roger Friedman over an online column on FoxNews.com that reviewed a pirated version of 20th Century Fox‘s “X-Men Origins: Wolverine.”
The article doesn’t say if he gave it a good review or not, and odds are Fox News.com dropped it from their website. I am kind of curious, though. I can understand trying to get the scoop before the other entertainment reporters and bloggers, but this seems a bit much. And while the report itself wasn’t illegal, it does sort of support the pirating, intended or not. Let’s also note that the movie in question was pirated from another division of Fox, so that’s sticking it to your own.
I’m mostly going to see it because one of my crew wants to see it, and I’ve dragged them to a few movies myself. As I’ve mentioned before, Wolverine is my second least favorite “hero” in the Marvel Universe. (#1 goes to the Punisher.) However, I did enjoy the first two X-Men movies (the third–not so much), so I’m not completely uninterested. I wonder if we can get the next movie to be about Kitty “Shadowcat” Pride, or Jubilee.

I just can’t get into this live-action stuff; The Dark Knight is the only one I’ve cared for. Partially because the pointless Hollywood-token love interest was blown to bits, but it had other good points too. Tried to watch the first X-Men once and couldn’t take it.
I’d rather they go more into CGI/animated films, high-quality material too, not cheap Saturday morning stuff…something more like a moving comic really, based on the classic storylines. Get the tinseltown screenwriters out of the equation.
Poor old Wolverine has suffered terribly from overexposure, the brainless kiddies just gobble up every overpriced piece of crap he guests in. He was once one of the most compelling Marvel characters, but he got ruined by greed and these POS writers, just like Pun, DD, Iron Man, Spidey and most everyone else.
Random thought of the day: It amazes me how the Punisher has turned into the hero of choice for the I-hateses-religgin’ goth-emo-loser crowd, I see punks all over wearing Pun logo shirts anymore. The kinda guys he would want nothing to do with; it’s like how rich white kids used to wear Public Enemy shirts back in the 90s, makes zero sense.
Obvious who’s to blame for this shift in the fanbase, too. Thanks for wrecking my favorite character and turning him into your own personal philosophical buttwipe, Garth.

I think they just like the skull logo. I wonder how many of them even know who Frank Castle is.
As far as Wolverine, I could like the character (X-Men Evolution, for example), but the Powers That Be want him what they consider his most marketable. I picked up the Wolverine Saga freebie a few weeks ago, and it looks like they created a character for the express purpose of knocking him back to his more feral aspects, killing off any friends and lovers that lead him to settle down. That and the whole homewrecking thing (I hear in the Ultimate version he actually leaves Scott for dead so he can hook up with Jean) just leaves me cold. Then there’s the oversaturation.
At least the Marvel Adventures version gets beat up a lot. 🙂
