For the original Transformers: The Movie, the 1986 animated movie based on the animated series, the song “The Touch” was used when both Optimus and Rodimus Prime went into exhaust port-kicking action. Now its writer, Stan Bush, is hoping to get a remade version of the theme into the current live-action movie franchise. However, as I was about to post this video, I went to the place I heard it from, TFW2005.
UPDATE!!!! Since we threw up this video, there’s been a backlash of negative (and some positive) criticism of the new version of “The Touch”. However, Stan Bush may not feel the same way — the song creators have disabled embedding for the YouTube video (so we cannot show it on the frontpage here), and have also disabled comments on the actual video itself on YouTube.
UPDATE 2!!!!! All the information on the video has been removed. There is no longer any mention of their attempt to get the song in Revenge of the Fallen, no mention of getting hyped up for the movie, nothing. No explanation of the change of the song-title to “Sam’s Theme” as we first reported. It is now simply called “The Touch Redux ala Linkin Park
So I can’t embed it, but I can still link to it. At this point I have to redo the rest of the paragraph I wrote last night. As I checked out Shortpacked! today, David Willis (whom I know through alt.toys.transformers) informs us that they did an edited version, minus the rapper (but not his rap) and guitarist. Don’t ask me why, I only work here. Anyway, this one is embeddable.
And I can put up the video for the original version:
(Actually, the hard part was finding one embeddable that was the original video and not a fan-video. Again, don’t ask me why. You can usually find 50,000 versions of many clips up there because nobody checks to see what’s already there. I think someone’s trying to jinx this post. That and my back’s funky again. What a Monday.)
Personally, the “updated” song isn’t my personal taste, which doesn’t mean it’s bad–just not my style, but the video itself is an improvement. The original is just Stan and a green screen (and that weird bird-like graphic). This one at least tries a few different thing. And at least it’s not this:
