My apologies to anyone who actually cares about the Pull List. I had a number of distractions last week, and it didn’t even come to mind. However, I’m not going to sit here and make excuses. I have work to do. For obvious reasons, I won’t include the comics that came last week, since they’re already reviewed. However, we still have 3 weeks of comic shipments until the next month, so there’s still plenty to pre-comment on.
You can follow along at ComiXology, where you’ll find my profile under “BW Media” or “ShadowWing Tronix”. Sometimes, I actually post something on the forums, but most of my time is taken up here, where I can ramble as much as I want. 🙂

The Incredibles: Family Matters #3 (Boom! Kids)
Writer:Mark Waid Artist: Marcio Takara
I still wonder why Waid loves putting superheroes through the ringer, but considering how badly Bob wanted to get back in the tights in the movie, seeing him coping with another circumstance keeping him out of the super hero game (this time the loss of his powers) when supers are in again is a good story to make. I’m just hoping that if more Incredibles stories are made, and apparently there are, they don’t all involve Bob not being able to be Mr. Incredible for one reason or another. The others need a little focus as well, and that includes Frozone.
Muppet Robin Hood #2 (Boom! Kids)
The last issue was fun, so I’m thinking this will continue. I wonder if they’ll actually have the Muppets doing their take on Robin Hood in the movies?

Read yesterday’s reviews. 🙂

Billy Batson and the Magic of Shazam! #5 (DC Comics)
Written by Mike Kunkel Art and cover by Mike Kunkel
I wish I remember where I read it, but I’m not sure if Kunkel is actually the artist on this piece. I know there’s a team standing by to help get the series out, starting with issue 6, and I’m curious to see what they do. I’ve only had one major complaint with Kunkel’s run (sometimes he tries to put too many panels on a page, which is a sharp contrast with his fellow artists making too many bigger panels to show off their fancy art skills), and I’d hate to see him leave for long. Oh, and I just found out Mike has a blog devoted to his Shazam! work.
Buck Rogers #1 (Dynamite)
Writer: SCOTT BEATTY Penciller/Inker: CARLOS RAFAEL
Admittedly, they did make me curious with their 25cent preview, although I still say it kills the potential drama when you already know how he dies. This is based on the classic series of novels, comic strips, and movie serials and not the 80’s series, which means no Twiki. (awwwwww) However, it looks like someone has an idea how to update a property. I’m look at you, Will Ferrell!
Doctor Who: Cold Day in Hell [TP] (Panini Books)
Wait, wasn’t I promised this last month?
Doctor Who: Autotopia (IDW)
John Ostrander Kelly Yates (a) Yates, photo (50/50 c)
I’ve been wanting to see an American take on Doctor Who since I first heard IDW was getting the license stateside. What we got, however, was the lackluster Gary Russell mini-series, and the oh-my-god-this-is-awesome Tony Lee mini-series. Since Lee will be writing the ongoing (so many reasons why this phrase is yay-inducing), this will be my only chance. From the previews, it looks like I’m also getting my Donna Noble appearance, although it appears to be early Donna, not later Donna. (No, I wasn’t expecting Doctor/Donna, and let’s not get started on how Russel T. screwed this character over in the finale after we all fell in love with her.) Thursday will be a good day. And an expensive one, as there’s still a lot to go.
Lockjaw and the Pet Avengers #2 (Marvel)
Making Ms. Lions a male? Stupid. Making him stupid? Also stupid. Everything else about the first issue was fun, and the addition of Sabu from the Savage Land should add some interesting moments if they pop up in the city or something. Kind of hard not to notice a giant bulldog with a tuning fork on his head to begin with, much less one traveling with other animals. Throw in a sabertooth tiger? Oh, there’s gonna be some fun times tonight!
Marvel Adventures: Super Heroes #12 (Marvel)
More MA Captain America going on, although I still wonder how this connects with MAs Hulk and Avengers. “Marvel Adventures” is in serious need of continuity, which I’m hoping Tobin (writer of MA Avengers and some Super Heroes issues) will bring that when he takes the reigns of MA Spidey next month.
Sonic the Hedgehog #201 (Archie)
Ian Flynn (A) Tracy Yardley
Hey, it’s the return of Monkey Khan! Too bad he’s decided to be a party pooper, but now I remember where the Iron Queen first appeared.
Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan #1 (IDW)
The ComiXology listing says it best: “Somebody goofed up 25 years ago, and we’re going to make it right! The one Star Trek movie that never got a proper comic book adaptation is the best one! Kirk, Spock and crew will battle it out with Khan for the last time!” Well, I’m not sure I’d call it the best one (I personally preferred 4, not counting the Captain Planet message and I wouldn’t want all the movies to be like that one), but it is a crime that there’s been no adaptation prior. The remaining issues will be shipping over the next few weeks, but I’m not going to list them all here.
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen #4 (IDW)
I’m still not reading the adaptation until I’ve seen the movie, and I’m disappointed that they’re using Furman’s worst concept since the Neo Knights (a bunch of X-Men ripoffs from his Marvel run), but I’m still planning to enjoy the film. I’m still not hearing glowing apprasals of the adaptation, though.

The Brave and the Bold #24 (DC)
Not to be confused with Batman: The Brave and the Bold, based on the cartoon. This is where the toon got it’s name, however, as it used to be a Batman team-up comic in it’s youth. However, you may recognise the writer’s name from that series.
Written by Matt Wayne Art and cover by Howard Porter
There are only two ways for me to see Static in action. (Three if you count watching old episodes of Static Shock, four if you count the old Milestone series, which just isn’t the same. “My” Static was from the aforementioned cartoon.) One is to read Teen Titans, which Sean McCleaver McKeever has turned into a blood bath. Pass on that. The other is here, where he teams up with fellow lightning thrower Black Lightning. I guess we’re going to ignore the fact that it’s already canon that the Milestone characters exist in another universe. Or we can just blame stupid fanficy arcs and writers/editors who don’t give a fig Superboy Prime’s punching reality nonsense. Maybe I should rethink this one.
You Can Draw Transforming Robots (Antarctic Press)
The ComiXology listing says “How To” instead of “You Can”, but the cover says the opposite, so I’m going with that. Another one I thought was coming last month.
Marvel Adventures: The Avengers #37 (Marvel)
Written by PAUL TOBIN Penciled by DAVID BALDEON Cover by DAVID WILLIAMS
If you’ve read this site, you already know why to get this, so let’s move on.
Power Girl #2 (DC)
Written by Jimmy Palmiotti & Justin Gray Art by Amanda Conner Covers by Adam Hughes and Amanda Conner
Hey look, kids! Ultra-Humanite has a deep, dark secret attached to his origin. In a modern DC comic! That’s never happened before! (I wish!) And here I thought the stupidest thing they could do was even temporarily have UH take over PG for a while. This series might not be long for my Pull List after all.
Simpson’s Comics #155 and (next week) Bart Simpson Comics #48 + Simpson’s Super Spectacular #9 (Bongo)
The first two chapters in a story concluded in Simpson’s Super Spectacular the following week (see below) features Krusty the Clown getting his hands on the Radioactive Man comics and preparing to re-imagine him. This will not end well, as I’m sure the third will reveal.
(also) Shipping June 24
Batman: The Brave and the Bold #6 (DC)
Written by J. Torres; Art by Andy Suriano & Dan Davis; Cover by Scott Jeralds
This is the cartoon-based one, but the fact that ComiXology doesn’t even have a cover up yet concerns me.
Green Lantern: First Flight (Warner Home Video)
OK, not actually a comic book, and I probably won’t pick it up at the comic store, but I will get it. Hey, just because I think Kyle Rayner is the greatest GL ever, and I think he’s been getting pushed around by the Fanfic Bridage at DC doesn’t mean I don’t have love for old Hal! It looks like a good animated movie.
The Incredibles: Family Matters #4 (Boom! Kids)
I don’t expect this out at the date give. You’ll probably see it again in next month’s Pull List. If I actually post the darn thing on time next time!
Land of the Lost #1 (Arcana Comics)
Sean O’Reilly, Tony Lee (A) Various
Yeah, the same guys behind The Greatest American Hero. That probably means my local comic store won’t be carrying it, unless they’re hoping for post-movie hype, and I didn’t know about it until a week ago. Still, more Tony Lee. (Hmmm, I wonder if I can talk them into doing a crossover mini with the Porters of the remake? See last Saturday’s Showcase article if you don’t know who I mean.)
Muppet Robin Hood #3 (Boom! Kids)
(see Incredibles: Family Matters #4)
The Muppet Show #4 (Boom! Kids)
(W/A) Roger Langridge
The finale features that showstopper herself…MS. PIGGY! Eh, I’ll buy it anyway.
The Phantom: Generations #4 (Moonstone)
W) Will Murray (A) Sean Van Briesen (C) Doug Klauba
Considering that #2 just came out last week, I’m not hedging my bets on this one coming out when advertised, either.
Sonic Universe #5 (Archie)
Ian Flynn (A) Tracy Yardley
I stopped reading Sonic The Hedgehog about the time we were introduced to the future daughter of Knuckles because unrelated reasons, so this will be a good chance for me to get acquainted with her.
Transformers Spotlight: Cliffjumper (IDW)
Shane McCarthy & Denton J. Tipton Robbie Musso (a) Musso, Don Figueroa (50/50 c)
Sadly, not too many Spotlights left, and I’m not getting my Bumblebee Spotlight. Oooh, a Don Figueroa cover!
Transformers: All Hail Megatron #12 (IDW)
And here it comes: the big finale! Will the Autobots save the day? Will the humans realise they have heroes among the giant robots for only the second time in the G1 wing of the Transformers multiverse? (That would be the original cartoon.) Only time will tell.
William Shatner Presents: Tek War #1 (Bluewater)
William Shatner, Scott Davis (A) Erich Owens
Not sure what the “MR” stands for on the ComiXology page, but I’ve read the first novel and seen the TV series. (I also played the video game, and I wish I hadn’t.) So I’m interested in seeing the comic. Note that this is the second time there has been a Tekwar comic (the first was made by Marvel when the novels were first coming out).
So now we just sit back and wait to see what’s coming out and what I actually end up getting. I hope it’s mostly good.

MR=Mature Readers.

Ah, maybe I should avoid it, then. Too many “Mature” comics out there already. Then again, Archangels: The Saga was also a “Mature” series, and it’s one of my favorites.

It’s not too mature…it’s right on the line. Has one usage of the s-word and some violence, but no more than your average PG-13 movie these days.

I’ll probably give it a look-over if it comes in. Previews doesn’t come in on time lately at the comic store (not that I remember to look for it), so I tend to miss out on stuff. I’m betting Land of the Lost doesn’t end up on their shelves, either. Like I said, I did enjoy the first book and TV show. Also thinking about giving Quest for Tomorrow a look, but the other comic in the FCBD preview this year did nothing for me.
