Ok, let’s clean out the rest of my RSS feeds and find the good articles not worth a full comment, but worth being pointed out. And because I want this cleaned out, this is going to be a long one:

  • The Weekly Crisis takes a look at the subscripton figures that Joe Q says proves the post Brand New Day Spider-Man stories are a hit. Biggest shock? Marvel Adventures: Spider-Man is doing better in the subscriptions than the main title. Not the case in the stores, as far as I know.
  • An interesting use of comics to promote a novel. They certain have my attention.
  • Hey, a site with kid-friendly webcomics. There aren’t too many of those. I looked over this “Kidjutsu” site, and there seems to be some interesting ideas in there I may have to look into further. Rather short supply of super heroes, though.
  • The Jim Henson company is teaming with Arcana to produce comics based on their non-Muppet properties (the Muppets are currently a part of the Disney family) such as The Dark Crystal, one of my favorite movies.
  • Not to my personal interests, but some of you readers might find a graphic novel based on the real world of fashion modelling interesting. Most of the ones based on that industry only show the glamourous side.
  • Publishers Weekly reports on a panel coming up at the 2009 Sand Diego Comic-Con discussing comics impact on the other entertainment industries. It does seem to be a metaphorical mining town for TV, movies, and video games.
  • You know how we’re told thinking “outside the box” leads to more creativity? One blogger says that in Hollywood, thinking inside the box is actually better.
  • On the other hand, could copyright law be hurting creativity?
  • DC may be doing some viral marketing when it comes to their character “The Question”, who gets her cases via the internet. I’ll be interested to see how that goes.
  • Is the rap style known as “nerdcore” on it’s last legs?
  • Pinoccio: Vampire Slayer. I think you already have your opinion. I think the Action Age may get trumped by SLG on this one.
  • The School Library Journal has a list of comic trades which they feel demonstrate positive cultural diversity. Yeah, I guess so, and we can debate what that really means, but any list that gives high marks to Doctor Who comics can’t be all bad, even if one of their examples is the rather disappointing “Agent Provcoteur” arc with the more excellent “The Forgotten” meerly being an afterthought mention.
  • Greg Hatcher of Comics Should Be Good makes me think I should give Batman and Robin a second look. Frankly, I was put off by the “Mr Pyg” character and all that nonsense.

And that pretty much catches me up. Yeah, right. I’ll be doing this at least once a month. Not a full week, mind you. Next week: actual articles! Maybe. 🙂
