Toon Zone is reporting on a press release by kids channel and programming block Qubo. The channel, which focuses on “edutainment” series and lighthearted shows like Babar (formerly of HBO) and the Veggitales series, are adding new shows to their lineup. Two of them, Rescue Heroes, based on the toyline that inspired a new generation of pre-school targeted action figures (such as Marvel’s Spider-Man and Friends and DC’s Super Friends), and Pipi Longstocking (based on the children’s books which have spawned numerous tv and movie properties), have been made before, so I wonder if they are all new shows or just old ones being brought back. (I’m pretty sure Babar is just the old HBO shows, but I haven’t watched it in a while.)
Qubo took over the NBC Saturday Morning lineup (after the network decided they couldn’t otherwise be bothered, and after Discovery Networks lost the license) as well as ION (the former PAX network, who otherwise can’t even be bothered creating their own shows anymore) and in Spanish on Telemundo (I don’t speak Spanish.) Some shows, however, will only air on the Qubo television channel (yeah, I don’t know why these stations allow another network to run their shows) and some episodes can be accessed on their website.
At least someone still thinks about giving kids something to watch, which only seems possible on a kids-targeted network. Now how about the older audiences who want something more than shows they’ve seen 50,000 times (this month) already?
And looking over their lineup, no reality shows. No live action shows at all. Just cartoons. Take that, Cartoon Network and Toon Disney XD!
