Remember Mark Waid’s Irredeemable for Boom! Studios? I avoided it because I really don’t care about another “hero deconstruction”. Irredeemable, for those out of the loop, was a comic series about “The Plutonian”, a Superman analog who goes supervillain after some kids talks smack about him and his Lois Lane analog outs his identity. Or something like that. I really didn’t pay close attention after “hero turns evil”. However, maybe something good came out of this comic after all?

Last April BOOM! Studios showed the world that ‘Mark Waid Is Evil’ with the smash-hit series Irredeemable. Now, Mark Waid is Incorruptible! Super villain Max Damage had an epiphany the day The Plutonian destroyed Sky City. When The Plutonian turned his back on humanity, Max Damage decided to step up. Now Max Damage has changed his name to Max Daring and turned from his formerly selfish ways to become Incorruptible. The flip side to this year’s break-out smash hit, examining the hard, difficult road to changing your ways and making a difference in the world. Covers by Tim Sale and John Cassaday.

Now a story about a supervillain becoming a super hero I can get behind. This, of course, depends what kind of hero Max Danger/Daring becomes, because Punisher-type anti-heroes are a dime a dozen.
I’m actually considering checking this one out, but I think I’ll wait until the reviews come out.I know Waid can write a decent book, as I’ve been collecting The Incredibles since the first comic came out. (That would be as far back as Dark Horse’s movie adaptation, by the way.) So I wonder if he can “redeem” a “corrupt” notion as this universe.
