Erik Josten had a run of bad luck back in the day. The former Power Man had been played for a sucker, gaining power, losing his supervillain name, losing power. However, he had hoped that renegade scientist Dr. Karl Malus could give him his powers back. Malus exceeded Erik’s expectations, and the result was the new identity “Goliath”, complete with size changing powers. Goliath would turn on the doctor and begin tonight’s rampage.
Dr. Malus once tried to give the same power to Spacebooger. It only affected his ego.
Round 3 of 12
The Battlefield: Iron Man Annual #7 (Marvel Comics, 1984)
The Promoters: Bob Harras (writer), Luke McDonnell (penciler), Akin & Garvey (inkers), Rick Parker (letterer), Bob Sharen (colorist), and Mark Gruenwald (editor)
Goliath is more than happy with his newly obtained power.

It's time for you to clean your room.
It’s everyone’s favorite Shellhead, Iron Man, only with a creamy James Rhodes center. Goliath is thrilled, since now he can begin his evil redemption by smashing an Avenger.

(Insert "ticket punched" joke here)
He’s starting out rather small though. However, Rhodey doesn’t recognize this guy as one of Tony’s old foes, and you would think a fifty-foot tall supervillain would be easy to remember. Still, Iron Man doesn’t back down from a bus.

Talk to the hand, Iron Man!
Even Goliath can’t believe his speed. Could Malus actually gone one better when revitalizing his old powers while giving him new ones? No time to think about it. Goliath tries to drop a street, and then a whole building on Iron Man.

"Just out for my morning stretch."
But it’s going to take more than that to take down Iron Man on this site. He can’t let down young Mr. Huber or his other legion of Iron Fans. Unfortunately for the Golden (West Coast) Avenger, Goliath has more.

Um, Erik, do you know where that finger is?
So Goliath has Iron Man like an action figure. What he does next makes that evil neighbor kid from Toy Story proud.

The wind-up. The pitch!
Rhodey wakes up in the desert and Goliath achieves two victories for the price of one. The first is defeating an Avenger on national television.

Goliath later challenges Jay and Conan for control of The Tonight Show.
And while he doesn’t get to see the other victory, Rhodey experiences it first hand when he finally gets back to LA.

Fine, next time YOU take on the supersized, superspeedy, superstrong supervillain.
Goliath didn’t just smash Iron Man’s body, but his ego. Never mind that Rhodey was also suffering some ego issues, wondering if he could really measure up to Tony Stark’s days in the armor.
Next week: Iron Man goes for round 2 (during round 4), with a little help from his friends. Will he win? Considering this tournament’s theme, I’m doubting it. In the meantime, check out the other entries and vote for the best Victorious Villain. Remember, you don’t have to join the forum to vote in the poll, but competitors get two votes for the price of one. It’s like a sale?
