Only one story this issue, as Snively finally figures out a way to get past the dome. The Iron Queen uses her technomage powers to take control of Nicole. The Chaotix use a warp ring to help the residents escape. Amy takes on the Iron King (and does pretty well with her Piko mallet), as Sonic, Tails, Sally, and Ken try to get to Freedom Fighters HQ in the hopes of rescuing Nicole from the Queen’s control.
What they got right: Finally, some major action. I can deal with all the drama, but this is supposed to be about a war and it’s nice to get past the romantic angst. (Although, the credits area played with that nicely.) No back-up this issue. Just one full-length story. This a good thing. We also get the Tornado nanite-free so it can be used without the Queen’s powers interfering (thus avoiding the question of why she doesn’t). The Iron Kingdom are showing themselves to be a serious threat, and Snively is doing better as an evil genius without Robotnik or ego getting in the way.
What they got wrong: Nothing this issue. The art is as good as always, the character are all used beautifully. Actually, I do wonder where this story places with the current Sonic Universe story, which would otherwise leave Vector and Mighty unable to assist the Freedom Fighters.
Recommendation: If you haven’t been watching this comic, get to it. Things are starting to happen in both the war and their personal lives.
