I probably should have done this after the Blackest Night parody a couple weeks ago, but last week was the comic in honor of my getting to meet Doug “Nostalgia Critic” Walker in person, which was more important. Also I didn’t think of it until yesterday.
Next week I’ll do the comic I had planned this week (until I had a better idea), which will be set firmly into Jake and Leon’s world (unless I get another better idea). In the meantime, click the pic to see the longest “behind the scenes” post in the comic’s short history (14 weeks and a Christmas comic I still haven’t done a “commentary track” for), which is only interesting for art nerds and Paint Shop Pro users. For the rest of you, here’s some more rummaging through my RSS readers to find something interesting.
comics
- G4’s Olivia Munn, co-host of Attack of the Show, knows at least one comic she doesn’t like, a parody.
- Bleeding Cool reported on a sequel to Watchmen, but the comic not the movie. Too bad the press messed that one up.
- The recent Ed Brubaker story in Captain America where new Cap Bucky and the Falcon infiltrate a “Tea Party” group is drawing a lot of fire from conservatives, and I think justifiably so. I don’t usually go political, but check out Four Color, Newsbusters, Big Hollywood, and Connecticut newsblog Radio Vice Online.
- Want to be in the next Kick-Ass comic?
- Spider-Girl is making another comeback, and she’s bringing another old Spider-Friend.
television/movies
- CNN’s clueless article about the recent “comic book movie” explosion draws fire from Comics Alliance.
- Comics Alliance also looks into the neutered version of the The Human Target by seeing what else can be dumbed down from the source material.
- In the movie Percy Jackson and the Olympians there are changes from the book, such as the main character’s age. But are young adult novels the new in thing for movie sources as comics have been for the past few years? At least political concerns were simply a case of “jumping the gun” that wasn’t going to be fired.
- As part of her latest article about Wizard Magazine’s past, ComiXology’s Shaenon K. Garrity takes a look at past predictions about comic movies, from 1997, as well as the internet.
- Bill Murry discusses The Fantastic Mr. Fox and Ghostbusters 3 as part of a look at his career.
- The next DC Universe animated movie will feature Batman.
- Imagi Studios shuts down. They were the studio behind TMNT and the remake of Astro Boy from last year.
- Tyrese Gibson has announced that he will be back for the third Transformers movie. (I hope it’s better than the last one.)
- Coming Soon posted the trailer for Toy Story 3, which takes Andy’s toys on another exciting adventure when Andy goes to leave for college They also have a featurette on the Clash of the Titans remake that continues to disappoint me.
- The 80’s are finally making an appearance on the Saturday Morning Cartoons DVD series. I grew up with a lot of these.
in other news
- CNet reports a deal has been struck between Google and the Author’s Guild involving the internet juggernaut’s Google Books. But it is beneficial to the authors is what I want to know. What I DO know is they need a better interface, because I’m not sure if they even HAVE a fiction section, much less a science fiction one. And no comics.
- As part of Play Legends Revealed, learn the true history of the word “robot”.
Best Scene of the Week
Doctor Who #8
And that’s all for this week. I spent the day working on getting my record keeping organized, and I really let that go for too long. So here are the comics up for review this week.
