Transformers: Bumblebee #3

IDW Publishing (February 2010)

WRITER: Zander Cannon

ARTIST: Chee

COLORIST: Moose Baumann

LETTERER: Chris Mowry

ASSOCIATE EDITOR: Denton J. Tipton

EDITOR: Andy Schmidt

The Autobots are able to fool all but one of the Skywatch soldiers, who even catches on to their secret plan. That plan is for Bumblebee to reach the scientist behind the badges and get the killswitch that will free them. To do so, Bumblebee makes friends with his daughter, a move that he questions on moral grounds. But someone else is on his way to, the Decepticon Skywarp!

What they got right: This must be the week for Transformers stories finally getting their act together. (Except for Last Stand of the Wreckers, which hasn’t skipped a beat in two issues.) Bumblebee’s decisions, and possibly that of Klonowski, make them the most interesting characters in the story.

What they got wrong: I don’t know if it’s the colors or the art itself, but something about the visuals doesn’t so much look bad as not look as good as they think it does. I’m willing to blame the colorist, since I’ve never really been a fan of Baumann’s coloring, but all I know is that Serena doesn’t look right. (And I don’t mean that she looks rather caucasian for the daughter of a guy with the last name “Bhawaney”, unless I’m stereotyping or her mother was caucasian.)

Recommendation: One more issue to go, and I’m looking forward to seeing how this all plays out. Don’t disappoint me, guys.

Check the Weekly Wrap-Up tomorrow for “Best Scene of the Week”.
