While checking out the ads in the comic I was reading this morning, I think I found Rob Liefeld’s inspiration for how he draws women. For example:

I point you mostly to the girl on the right. And by girl I mean freak.

Or perhaps this one:

Or how about this?

Wait, that’s not Liefeld art. But it is his kind of waist.

This is from an ad for the compilation of Dan DeCarlo’s Jetta, a reverse Archie set in….the future future future..yeah, that’s tough to pull off in text. But look at her waist. DeCarlo is primarily known for his work in the actual Archie franchise, and created a number of characters for Archie Comics before they parted ways. You can kind of see it there.

On the other hand, DeCarlo is drawing a comedic comic and (most likely) exaggerating the hourglass figure as a number of artists of the time (the 50’s) did. Liefeld, on the other hand is doing an (allegedly) serious comic, but (especially in the second pic, both taken from this article) he actually gave his women a smaller waist, and many critics believe that’s how he actually thinks a woman should look, despite no way to fit internal organs or a normal skeleton in there.

No real rant here. I just found it interesting.
