Thor & The Warriors Four #1
(featuring Power Pack)
Marvel Comics (June 2010)
WRITER: Alex Zalben ARTIST: Gurihiru LETTERER: Dave Sharpe PRODUCTION: Damien Lucchese COLORIST: Jordan D. White SUPERVISING EDITOR: Nathan Cosby(EDIT: I noticed the author is sending some people via his Twitter feed. Hi! Just noting that I am way behind on comics purchases thanks to sick time and cut work hours (long, unconnected stories) so that’s why I’m reviewing issue #1 while #3 just came out this week. Also, my LCS was shorted issue #2, so I don’t know if or when that will be reviewed.)
The Power children are about to lose their grandmother to the one thing their powers can’t fight: old age. However, Julie reads about the Golden Apples of Asgard, and as Thor is a fellow superhero, she hopes these apples will save their grandmother. After a quick team-up with the Pet Avengers, Frog Thor uses his hammer to get the kids to Asgard.
A back-up story has Hercules agreeing to babysit the Powers kids in Johnny Storm’s place. After Herc’s storytelling, Hydra breaks into the house.
What they got right: Pretty much everything. The kids are well written, and believable. (The running gag with Katie and “Asgard” is just so darn cute.) You get a Pet Avengers cameo. The art is great, and I love watching Katie and Jack playing with the Pet Avengers in the background while Alex and Julie talk to Frog Thor. What’s not to like? I also like the more cartoony Hercules team-up back-up story.
What they got wrong: Ms. Lion is part of the Pet Avengers, and shows up in the story, but doesn’t get to speak and isn’t named. The hate against the character continues, even under a different writer.
Recommendation: Whether you have kids or not, you should be spending money on this comic. It’s just fun on paper.

What did I tell you? Cute.
