The Decepticons are falling apart. On Earth, Optimus is still trying to make peace with the humans to forge an alliance. Spike is willing, but there are secrets being kept from the Autobots. Really, I can’t say more without just printing the darn thing, other than the end shows Megatron, who monologues the whole comic, in something resembling the bacta tube from The Empire Strikes Back, nearly ready to come back online.

What they got right: It’s nice to see the Transformers look like their classic selves instead of the classic/Movieverse hybrid we’ve had thus far. As a catch-up comic it works pretty well.

What they got wrong: But did we need a “catch-up comic” in the first place? The whole story should have been centered on the Decepticons, and it looks like the evolution of Starscream’s portrayal we had in All Hail Megatron continues to go downhill, although thankfully not as bad as the cartoon version parody Furman writes. Also, we really don’t know who some of these Decepticons are unless your really steeped in Transformers lore, and I would think that Dreadwind would have been better served as more than a brief bit of shock value. Su’s are is also rather lifeless, in as much as while Figueroa’s new style may have suffered from over detailing the Transformers, Su’s problem is that there isn’t enough detailing. It also feels a bit exaggerated, most notably Starscream’s chin, although it’s still smaller than the “Animated” version. 😀

Recommendation: It may be worth a read, but I really can’t call this a must have. I just hope Costa isn’t sliding back down just when he started to get my attention.

And he has athlete's foot, too.
