Oh, no! What will happen to Space Monkey? Only YOU can decide his fate in the new webcomic Diary of a Space Monkey.
The brainchild of Norwegian comic maker and podcaster Kim Holm, Diary of a Space Monkey follows the title character on his mission when his ship crashes on an alien world. His fate is decided by the readers, making this a form of the classic “Choose Your Own Adventure” books.
At the end of the story, readers are given two choices (or in one case readers were asked to give a line of dialog, and the best were put into a poll), and they vote via the on site poll, Twitter hashtag #spacemonkey, or by being a dirty cheating briber donation. Voting continues to Friday, and the result appear on Monday. You don’t always decide the character’s choice, as sometimes the vote is on what happens to Space Monkey, either positive or negative.
Being a sketch comic, Holm still has time to focus on his other works (many of which probably aren’t my style, but he’s a good cartoonist) and make a weekly appearance on the Art and Story Extreme podcast. Eating and breathing may still be time-optional.
I think it’s a fascinating project, and rather creative. I’ve been voting for my choices, and can easily recommend it to anyone looking for something different when it comes to webcomics.
