Yes, I know E3 wrapped up last week, but I didn’t post my thoughts on it. In fact, I put filler videos up so I wouldn’t be interrupted from trying to catch up on all the news (some of which is still coming out) and still have time to work, get things done, and write tonight’s Jake & Leon.
I will make up for it by spending the next four “free days” going over my thoughts about the console press conferences (no love for PCs accept a handful of games at the Ubisoft and Electronic Arts events) and some other reviews I’ve seen.
My next step is to get a banner done for the Weekly Wrap-Up to take advantage of the “featured image” that’s part of this theme (and hopefully any future themes I end up using. You know how I am.) However, learn something interesting about panel 3 by clicking on the comic, and let’s take a look at what little info I was able to gather outside of E3 material this week.
comics
- Legendary comics artist Al Williamson passed away.
- Both Chris Sims and Bill D. commented on the disappointing way that the comic strip Annie, source material of the more famous musical, ended on a cliffhanger.
- Although DC Universe Online is a video game, one blogger wonders if it will spell the end of the comics blogosphere. (Disclaimer: Probably tongue-in-cheek here.
TV/movies
- Is there a live action version of the current Blue Beetle in our future? (h/t: Crisis on Earth Prime)
- If I wasn’t devoting next week to E3, you can be sure I’d be writing an article about how stupid it is to set the live action/computer imaging version of The Smurfs in modern day New York! Seriously, guys, you don’t have the ability to do a period piece? Is the Smurfs time period going to be done in animated form, like in Disney’s Enchanted?
- For a movie that’s about sex in sometime graphic and discomforting ways…no, that’s not always the focus of Sex and the City, I know, but to find something controversial they have to “find” racism in the movie? I thought the biggest gripe was a Miley Cyrus cameo?
video games
- Hey, your getting four days of gaming coverage, so what do you need here? Well, what about 5 things that were supposed to kill gaming forever, but ended up to be nothing?
This Week’s Cracked
- Because I didn’t have time to find a whole lot of “in other news” posts, let’s get right to 6 Random Coincidences That Created The Modern World. Sure, an article about how a sandwich break and an art school rejection led to two World Wars and the hippie movement (which only sounds worse) doesn’t sound very story-related, but it does put a number of plotlines into perspective. Like most of Scooby-Doo. Oh, the time-travel and alternate universe stories that could be written.

The Muppet Show #6

Now I go to re-watch press conferences and post thoughts on the oncoming flood of video games to hit the shelves between now and next conference.
