The second day is when I did most of my video interviews. However, I did get some pictures as well. Sunday was a shorter day, and I went to a panel that took a couple hours, so I didn’t get as much footage. I’ll report con video updates in the Weekly Wrap-Up articles when I get to them, but I plan to post the creator interviews on Saturday. I just have a little clean-up to do on them. The other convention shots I want to put together, but I need to find some background music and figure out how to put it in using Movie Maker.

(Remember, I’m not a video creator, so I’m not going to go crazy trying to find the right software to make them professional grade.)

In the meantime, here are some more pics, this time from the rest of the convention.

Other notes

  • In addition to interviewing creators (the ones I remembered to interview), I did attend some panels (the ones I could get to on my bad foot which kept me out of the manga swap–anyone know where I can sell some untranslated manga?), such as Nerdfit Network‘s “Now Your A Man” panel, which offers relationship advice (not to be confused with “How To Talk To Guys, Girls…”etc, which was less silly, but would have been as informative had I made it to the beginning of those panels. The webcomic panels were all over the place, I also missed the live drawing panel, one of the ones I really wanted to go to, and I went to a panel on inking which was interesting.
  • The highlight of the convention was a comedic performance by “geek comic” Uncle Yo. The Otaku In Review site was able to get footage of it, so you can join in the hilarity. A few swipes at Sarah Palin and Bill O’Reilly that I could have done without, but still the best part of the convention.
  • On Sunday, I only wanted to check out four panels. I missed the first half of the “Copywright, Remixing, and Moral Rights” panel which discussed the rights of creators vs. fair use and ASCAP, all of which was interesting (and based on recent events here at the Spotlight, rather appropriate). The “Changing Faces of Mecha” panel was replaced with one about famed director Hayao Miyazaki. I was rather disappointed, even though I do enjoy some of his work. Went to lunch instead.
  • The “Mini-Writer’s Workshop” was informative, but if I ever switch from comics to novels on the writing side, I still have a lot of work to overcome. But I have to get the comic thing going first anyway. The “Last Chance Meetup” didn’t have anybody until late and had somehow morphed into an impromptu “Cosplay Court House”, so I didn’t stay there long.
  • The Alternity Bumblebee and Sonic Screwdriver I was hoping to get this year weren’t available, but I did get the second Phantom prose novel from Moonstone (sold by one of the writers, C.J. Johnson, who was one of my interviewees) and a remastered edition of season one of Magic Knight Rayearth since I had reviewed the Hulu for last week’s Showcase. There is definitely an improvement, but for some reason the credits aren’t put into the show but left at the end of the final episode. They have the textless intro and outro as special features, so why didn’t they just put the credits in themselves during the remastering? I still recommend it. You might get the series together un-remastered as a box set, but I picked this one up and I’m looking forward to season 2.

Tomorrow, an open letter to my fellow attendees.
