The Transformers #9
IDW Publishing (July 2010)
WRITER: Mike Costa ARTIST: Guido Guidi COLORIST: J. Brown LETTERER: Chris Mowry ASSISTANT EDITOR: Carlos Guzman EDITOR: Andy Schmidt
The Combaticons are serving as troops in the North Korean army, and Kim Jong Du is trying to take South Korea. Spike recruits the Autobots to help stop them, but then the President declares using Transformers akin to using WMDs and it will not be tolerated. That means for Skywatch to deploy the Autobots it will have to be done in disguise.
What they got right: I have to admit that under the circumstances of the “real world-ish” perspective that they’re (sadly) taking with this series, the idea of North Korea employing the Decepticons makes perfect sense, and it’s nice seeing Skywatch and the Autobots ready to team up.
What they got wrong: But the Autobots still can’t get a break. I don’t think the ending to this issue was necessary. Why tie the Autobots hands even more than they have already? Can’t we have a comic universe where the Autobots eventually are treated as the heroes they are? Dreamwave was sort of heading that direction after the first arc. I would think an interstellar war would be dramatic tension enough without having to keep the Autobots on the outs with the human race.
Recommendation: One act of stupid does not take away from how well the story is done, or the well done art by Guido Guidi and colorist J. Brown on this issue. This title may still have a chance to be a great Transformer comic series.

That scene just speaks for itself.
