Yes, folks, this would be the last time we see Goldbug on the battlefield, for reasons I’ll try to condense for next week. (Any Transfan who reads this will note how difficult that’s going to be.) So he’s packed an Energon lunch and brought help in the form of Getaway, Slapdash, and Joyride. They’ve come to Nebulos in the hopes of restoring Optimus Prime, which is a long story in itself.

But one such as Spacebooger doesn’t have time for backstories. He demands fighting! And by thunder, fighting is what he shall have, for Dreadwind and Darkwing are their opponents, and they have TWO advantages.

Round 8 of 12

You know, I thought I’d be past the Marvels by now.

The Battlefield: The Transformers #42 (July, 1988) “People Power!”

The Promoters: Transformers Hall of Famer Bob Budiansky (writer), Jose Delbo (breakdowns), Dave Hunt & Don Hudson (finishes), the late Bill Oakley (letterer), Nel Yomtov (I think you know what he does by now) and Don Daley (editor)

Oh, did I mention that Darkwing and Dreadwind are now Powermasters, with the humans Hi-Test and Throttle (Nebulans name their kids weirder than Hollywood celebrities) providing their power. No, I don’t know how that works, either.

"Guess we shouldn't have stayed out late partying."

But surely the heroes will come back and…what, we’re only in the middle of the story? They’re goners.

At least he's honest about it.

Of course, the Autobots weren’t at full strength, due to the backstory, so let’s give them a break. As I said, this was the last time Goldbug would be seen on the battlefield, so next week, the return of Bumblebee in the hands of…Furman. Please tell me he doesn’t frag this up!

Remember, folks, we’re still begging looking for people to promote the Fights to your comic reading friends, vote for your favorites, and perhaps join the battle. So get a move on!

  1. Felicity's avatar Felicity says:

Have you noticed how buff Hi-Test was for a scientist? And when Hi-Q became a Powermaster, he went from Marlon Brando in this issue to Yul Brynner in #54. My pet theory: becoming a Powermaster speeds up your metabolism drastically, hence the need for Hi-Test and Throttle to keep invading restaurants and eating ten times their normal diet (also to fuel their Decepticons). If you started out fat, you’d get thin in a hurry, unless you started eating a lot in which case you’d get really buff. Hi-Q didn’t eat enough. That’s why he looked like an emaciated Picard in #76–80.
