Avengers Vs. The Pet Avengers #1

Marvel Comics (December 2010)

WRITER: Chris Eliopoulos
ARTIST: Ig Guara
COLORISTS: Chris Sotomayor (also cover) & J. Roberts
ALTERNATE COVER: Gabriel Hardman & Skottie Young
LETTERER/PRODUCTION: Joe Sabino
ASSISTANT EDITOR: Michael Horwitz
EDITOR: Nathan Cosby

Centuries ago, Fing Fang Foom and his kinsmen came to Earth. Originally treated as friends by some humans, others hunted them until only Foom is left. In this day and age, the Pet Avengers respond to a summons by Thor to find that he, Iron Man, and the current Captain America have been transformed into frogs and Foom creating an artificial island. (As seen in Tails of the Pet Avengers: The Dogs of Summer.) Now he has summoned others of his kind, who eat both Avengers teams, except for Lockheed because Foom sees him as a fellow dragon, and thus fit to join in their rule!

What they got right: The art may be some of the artists’ best (I’m including the colorists as artists). The story is good, the characters are fun, and there is less Ms. Lion character destruction than usual.

What they got wrong: Since this is an Avengers/Pet Avengers team-up, why is it called Avengers Vs. Pet Avengers? They’re not fighting each other.

Recommendation: After the last one shot, it’s nice to see the comic back to form. Definitely worth picking up.

Frog Thor says "nay" to the instruction manual of Ikea.
