This is more Slay Monstrobot of the Deep‘s territory that this site, but while reading this week’s (well, last week’s, but I’ll be reviewing it later this week) issue of Marvel Adventures: Spider-Man, I came across a surprising advertisement. It’s not controversial or anything, but I don’t recall seeing an ad for this product in a modern comic.

I didn’t even know they still made Sea-Monkeys. But there it is, an advertisement right out of yesteryear. Anyone who has ever read a comic from the Silver Age has seen ads like this, for crap so cheap that it would be unlikely to find at Toys R Us but from a company with enough bucks to buy an ad in a comic, hoping to con some kid out of their birthday money. Snell shows them off quite often at his site, but to see an ad that isn’t just a pushing more Marvel memorabilia in today’s comic? Surprising.

I wonder if this is only the beginning, and maybe those ads will return. At the very least they’re a source of amusement, at best a way for the comic company to offset a few of their production costs. Besides, I never did get my pair of X-Ray specs. Of course now I’m too mature to use them and with what women and sadly (thus proving I’m an adult) young girls wear today, who needs them? 😛

Speaking of which–probably not the best color choice for the naked fish people, guys. 😆
