We finally catch up with Hot Rod as he invades the Decepticon base and attempts to steal back the Matrix of Leadership. However, as he makes his escape he comes across Megatron in his new form and ends up ventilated for his effort.

What they got right: I do love watching Hot Rod being all cool and stuff. It’s what makes him more interesting that his “Rodimus Prime” years. He’s hotheaded, but not a total moron. Also the return of Megatron…although using his War For Cybertron body seems an odd choice.

What they got wrong: Megatron doesn’t seem to upset about losing the Matrix considering all the trouble he went through to get it. Dismissing it as “Starscream’s little bauble” doesn’t make a lot of sense. Also, why is Razorclaw there? Isn’t he still on Earth protecting China with the other Predacons? Finally, the coloring and art looks like something out of a cartoon which feels off for this series. Unless it’s the new art direction, in which case I’m indifferent towards it.

Recommendation: It’s Spotlight: Hot Rod #2. If you like that, then this isn’t a bad comic. Otherwise, it’s not all that spectacular.

Hot Rod's been watching Bugs Bunny again.

Up next: The Weekly Wrap-Up tonight including Best Scene of the Week.
