Tron: original movie adaptation #2
Marvel Comics (February 2011)
SCRIPT: Peter David ARTIST: Miaco Pierfederici LETTERER: Nate Piekos BOOK DESIGN: Jeff Powell COVER ART: Greg Land & Justin Ponsor PRODUCTION: Taylor Esposito ASSISTANT EDITOR: Charlie Beckerman EDITOR: Ralph MacchioNaturally, this covers the second half of the movie as Tron and Flynn team up to delete the Master Control Program.
I was worried about compressing the second half of the movie into one comic, but outside of one scene where Yori is talking to a character you only know if you saw the movie I had no trouble telling who was who or what was going on. Exposition used to speed up the showing of one of Flynn’s “user powers” works and keeps the flow going. (Namely being able to copy the “circuits”–wrong term for a program I think–of the MCP’s men to change his color.)
The art isn’t terrible. That said, it was totally wrong for this comic. For close-ups it’s fine and the actions are easy to follow and look right but the faces can become non-existent the further back the “camera” pulls. Also, while the artist does a decent enough job replicating the vehicles from the movie, I actually think they would have looked better with a more computer-look to them, like actually doing them in an AutoCAD program or something like that.
Overall, I’m impressed with this comic–for a movie adaptation.
