Set in the days of Cybertron, Megatron (who narrates) stands waiting for Optimus Prime, who is out to destroy Megatron once and for all. Flashback to the days before the war, as Sentinel Prime attempts to recharge the All-Spark despite Separatists’ objections, at least until he proves successful. (Apparently the All-Spark is solar powered, as Sentinel uses a method similar to the Fallen’s machine.) The Separatists’ leader, Ironhide, decides to join the Autobots. The flashback ends with Sentinel Prime choosing Optimus to succeed him as Prime.

What they got right: I do like Shockwave’s design, as Movieverse Transformers go, and I’m curious to see what his toy will look like. I also like stories set before the Autobot/Decepticon war.

What they got wrong: Although here we will learn nothing about Cybertronian culture. Continuity when it comes to the “official” prequels are usually off between the novels and comics, but now it’s off between the comics. In the last pre-movie time prequel, Optimus only took the name Prime when it was learned he was descended from the Prime after finding an artifact. There were no Primes at that point, so what is Sentinel doing here? Also, Ironhide served under Megatron in the last prequel and now we’re told he once led a revolution against the Autobots? Is there even an attempt to forge a functioning continuity here?

Recommendation: I’m not sure I can recommend it, but I’m not ready to give it heck, either. They really need to work with the movie and novel writers and form a proper continuity instead of just pulling things out of nowhere whenever they feel like it.

No, nothing was “Best Scene” worthy. There aren’t really any humorous or action-packed moments.

Tomorrow’s Comic> Transformers: Rising Storm, this movie’s bridging prequel.
