When Bruce hears about a green monster attacking an area he’s never been to, he heads to Pecos, Texas and finds the Abomination, who wants to be able to become human again. This not surprisingly leads to a battle between the Hulk and the Abomination.
What they got right: It’s a story that gets beyond the Avengers to do a story about one of the other heroes of the Marvel Universe, like this title used to do. And we have a Hulk story where Bruce Banner exists. Tobin seems to hate using Bruce so it’s nice that the guest writer is using him.
What they got wrong: Lack of continuity. This doesn’t feel like the same Marvel Universe that Tobin’s been writing. What’s “the Program”? Is it from the movies? I’ve praised this series for continuity since Tobin started working on it, so it’s a disappointment here. Also, the art isn’t bad but it’s not up to Marvel’s style. Also, the Hulk/Abomination fight is too short for a Hulk/Abomination fight.
Question: Is this a filler story? The solicits claim this was to be a Thor story, which is now a claim for next issue. That might explain some of my problems with this issue. Also, cover artist Shane Davis, according to Wikipedia, is supposed to be under exclusive contract to DC.
Recommendation: Not a bad comic. It’s worth a look but it isn’t up to the usual standards of this comic.

A comic with the Hulk vs. the Abomination, and the nomination goes to Hulk vs. a cave. Go figure.
