When you think of using clay to tell a story, you’re probably thinking of Claymation productions like Gumby or the California Raisins. A clay sculpture can tell a story on its own, but the process of watching a sculpture can be rather boring for most people.

Clay sculptor Gil Amelio found a way to make it interesting, although it’s not really meant to be a permanent statue. Every year The 700 Club airs a segment by Amelio called “The Face of Christ”. He used his clay to create a presentation that is as much about art as it is the story of Easter, depicting how Jesus was portrayed by artists of the past and the events of Christ’s death and resurrection. Even if your not a believer in Jesus, the presentation alone is well worth watching.

I couldn’t find any information about him due to some technology executive with the same name messing with the search (and all I found by adding “clay” to the search were other postings of this video). However, it’s a fantastic piece and as you can tell a rather old one. I see it every year and it never get old in the viewing.

I hope you have a happy Easter this year.
