With the Matrix embedded in his chest keeping him alive, Rodimus is found by aliens who want to use the Matrix to power their spaceship although he’ll die if they do. Rodimus breaks free and while on the run comes across Wheelie, whose mind is slowly going, the rhyming we saw in Spotlight: Wheelie now a part of his speech pattern. Together with one of the aliens they find a way off of the planet and make their way back to outer space.
What they got right: It was nice to see that they didn’t forget about Wheelie, although the allusion to the Quintessons didn’t seem to appear here. While I don’t want to see “Rodimus Prime”, I do like seeing Hot Rod in action, even if he is using the name his toy is using.
What they got wrong: The “alien” designs were OK, but the monster on the planet just didn’t do it for me.
Recommendation: With the upcoming “Road to Chaos” arc coming, and any break from the disappointing Earthside story off to the side for a while, this may turn out to be a good story. We’ll have to wait and see.
