Darkwing Duck #13
Boom Studios/Kaboom! (June 2011)
WRITER: Ian Brill ARTIST: James Silvani COLORIST: Lisa Moore ALTERNATE COVER: Sabrina Alberghetti LETTERER: Deron Bennett EDITOR: Christopher Burns
Still distraught after losing Morgana to the battle with Duckthulu, Darkwing must take on the criminal One-Shot, a former baseball pitcher who receives a coat that can carry anything. The Masked Mallard must remain focused on the villain when he kidnaps the mayor, and then Gosalyn and Honker. All these juggling of responsibilities leads to an odd inspiration by DW when the mayor retires–to run for mayor!
What they got right: Not only is the villain named “One-Shot”, but the story is a one-shot story instead of the usual four-parter. Not only is that a refreshing change, but it only takes one comic to explore Darkwing’s situation. It’s also good that they’re creating a few of their own villains in addition to the usual Darkwing Rogues Gallery.
What they got wrong: Darkwing running for mayor? That’s the next arc? Why? I want to see the gang fight crime not run for public office.
Recommendation: This is a good jump-on point for new readers, and I would like to see more one-shot stories (and perhaps more of One-Shot, as the origin of his magic cloak that makes him want to kill Darkwing has to be a plot point down the road) in the future.

Don't you love when the bad guys make it easy?
