Again bouncing back and forth, we learn Optimus Prime’s story after the last issue. When police captain Optimus arrests Whirl for Megatron’s in-cell beating, other agents of the elite guard try to talk him into letting their friend go. When he refuses, the trio break into the precinct, kills Optimus’ officers, and get their circuit boards beat out by Optimus, who then confronts the council. In the present, Optimus allows Megatron to choose his own sentence, life imprisonment or death. Guess which he chooses.
What they got right: Roberts even gets the minor details right, such as Blaster as a news reporter (which is close to what he was in his Spotlight issue). Optimus kicks a lot of tailpipe, which is how we like our Optimuses.
What they got wrong: Oh, please don’t tell me that exchange between Optimus and Rodimus leads to Rodimus Prime. Please, no. I still hate IDW’s version of Cybertron’s forced caste system. This is not how I want my Autobots to act. Someone finally gives us pre-war Cybertron and it’s a version I can’t support. Oh, and the two sided variant cover is back, this time with Optimus.
Recommendation: Any problems I have with the comic (except for the variant cover) is merely personal preferences. It’s a well-done story and worth reading.

Oh, slagging pit yeah!
