I’m just not in the writing mood today (or maybe I’m just delaying the inevitable Justice League #1 review) so let’s talk ponies.
This is a show intended to sell toy ponies to little girls. However, this little flash series has gained fans from adult males, who call themselved “bronies”. And like any fandom this is has gone to levels of stupid that make you cringe. It’s not enough to have your favorite character, everyone else has to love your favorite character and favorite show/episode or you have to hate them. That’s just what some fandoms devolve into. How far could it go? Lumberjack Films decided to take a look at it.
Look, there’s nothing wrong with enjoying a well-written show, regardless of how you fit the intended demographic. This is a little girls’ show and your an adult male? Who cares? I’ve only seen a few episodes (not being a regular watcher), and even I have a favorite Pony.

At least I did. Thanks for killing the experience, internet. However, this leads into my problem with “bronies”. Whether they’re trying to prove they’re still MANLY MEN (fanfare) or some other reason there’s this need to “defend” their fandom and adultify stuff, like in the picture above (which I screencapped from the video but fully believe the real thing exists–I’m just not going to look for it). Just enjoy it for what it is, realize that not everyone is going to agree with you for various reasons, and KEEP KIDS THINGS FOR KIDS. If you can’t let yourself enjoy it without ripping it from the target demographic, then seek help.
Yes, it’s a good show and please continue to enjoy it. But if someone isn’t a fan or doesn’t like “your” My Little Pony, just get over it. Obsession makes you stupid, whether it’s Star Wars or Ponies. (Ask Obscurus Lupa about the fallout from a recent My Little Pony video movie review where she committed the “sin” of not mentioning the current series.) I’ve seen some cool stuff come from the fandom.
Have fun with fandom. Love a good show. Don’t let it overtake your life or make you a jackass.
