Sonic The Hedgehog #229
Archie Comics (December, 2011)
WRITER: Ian Flynn PENCILER: Tracy Yardley INKER: Terry Austin COLORIST: Matt Herms LETTERER: John Workman COVER: Patrick Spaziante EDITOR: Paul Kaminski
Sonic burrows through Eggman’s base and ends up on the Death Egg. There he confronts the mad doctor, but with Mobius being torn apart, he must gain the power of the Chaos Emeralds and restore the original reality or it will be the end for everyone.
What they got right: Next month we restore continuity (take that, DC!). This is issue all action, but the relationship between Sonic and Sally shines through. I’m not sure how they’re going to top this plan by Eggman.
What they got wrong: Maybe they needed another issue, because the method of restoration doesn’t come out of nowhere, but it happens kind of fast. Then again, Sonic is all about fast. 🙂
Recommendation: The ending maybe rushed, but still satisfying. This would be a good arc to collect, but being an alternate universe story of sorts probably not the right starting point for new readers of the series.
