Captain Atom sends the team open a cold case, discovering if Captain Nathaniel Adams was in fact guilty of treason. The team splits up into three groups, uncovering information leading to the case that leads them to a retired North Vietnamese general living in America and a samurai whose sword can even hurt Superboy.

What they got right: This had the proper mix of serious and fun elements, more serious, as the kids take on a covert investigation. I like how YJ uses their talents in the investigation and we even learn a bit more about Aqualad’s past.

What they got wrong: Well, not so much wrong as something I’m wondering. WE know that Nathaniel Adams IS Captain Atom, but obviously the kids don’t. This story can go one of three ways. Either Atom is using Young Justice to clear his name behind the back of the Justice League (which would make this a more interesting TV story), this is all a set-up by the League and Nat’s old military friends to test Young Justice, or as a variation of #2 this is a pre-arranged field test, but they end up getting caught up in a real mystery with the swordsman. Either way, I’m curious to see what they’re going with.

Recommendation: If you’re bothered by the new 52 and just want some classic superhero action DC style, this version of Young Justice appears to be the way to go. I wish DC would use this as a starting point for a new universe for younger readers. Maybe they’re worried we’d like this DC Universe more. 🙂

I'd ask if he's joking, but this Superboy isn't very comedy-minded.
