I wasn’t planning on doing another Godzilla movie so soon. I do like to diversify. However, plans sort of went that way. One Star Trek fanfilm I was going to use I couldn’t get all the chapters embeddable without posting like 9 or 10 videos. Another was missing the final scene. So the heck with it. You get Godzilla and like it.

And like it you may. Both the 50th anniversary and the final G-film (at least until Legendary Pictures attempt to succeed where Roland Emmerich failed), Godzilla: Final Wars didn’t just go out with a bang, but a mushroom cloud as high as the titular character. This should make me feel better.

Vodpod videos no longer available.

Again, Vodpod doesn’t like fullscreen so you can see it at Crackle.com’s page for that.

OK, let’s be honest. This is probably one of the weakest stories in the franchise. The concept of mutants makes no sense, and things happen to fast to realize how weak the story is, but this movie exists for one purpose: to make monsters battle and then have Godzilla dispatch them all. That’s it. There’s nothing for me to analyze here, people. Your hear to watch bad-ass monster battles with a side order of human wire-fu meets flashy digital effects. Yes, having Zilla (Japan’s name for Emmerich’s Godzilla/GINO) get beaten down with horrible CG is a joke and they missed a chance to improve the monster. Yes, the kid tossing Squirtle as a Gamera analog was in poor taste for those of us who are fans of both monsters. Yes, Captain Gordon is the most manly man in the Godzilla multiverse. Yes, the Xilians have a good update. But who cares. This, like Destroy All Monsters in the classic era, is just a big kaiju beatdown, and you have to love it for that.
