Transformers #30
IDW Publishing (November, 2011)
STORY: Mike Costa & James Roberts SCRIPT: Mike Costa ARTIST (including all covers): Livio Ramondelli LETTERER: Shawn Lee ASSOCIATE EDITOR: Carlos Guzman EDITOR: John Barber Cover “A” shown
The Autobots realize that D-Void is controlling Galvatron through the Heart of Darkness, but even a surprise addition to their cause can’t help. Instead of saving the universe, Galvatron may well doom it! Only Optimus and the Matrix can set things right.
What they got right: For the majority of this story, Costa really brings a good action story, and the surprise side switcher is certainly a twist for Transformers fans without feeling out of place.
What they got wrong: What the heck happened at the end? No, really, I have clue how this comic ended. And this time it isn’t the art, which is still nice for art but terrible for a comic book. The issue just…kind of ends.
Recommendation: I would still wait for the upcoming two titles before attempting to get into IDW’s Transformers series. You’re going to be kind of lost.
And because of the bad-for-comics artwork, no Best Scene nomination.
