Babylon 5 #9
DC Comics (October, 1995)
“Laser, Mirror, Starweb” part 1, “Duet for Human and Narn in C Sharp”
WRITER: David Gerrold PENCILER: Rebecca Guay INKER: Rick Bryant LETTERER: Tracy Hampton Munsey COLORIST: Robbie Busch ASSISTS: James McCann EDITOR: Laura Hitchcock SERIES CREATOR: J. Michael Straczynski
NOTE: The events of this next arc take place between the episodes “The Geometry of Shadows” and “A Distant Star“.
G’Kar goes on the run when his “Ini-Darka”, Greegil, arrives on the station and is “forced” to take Garibaldi with him. Sheridan and pursues them with Greegil tagging along. However, G’Kar’s ship is abandoned because he’s actually hiding within the center of the station, and the surprise he left on his ship to kill Greegil may take Sheridan instead!
What they got right: I love how Sheridan and Greegle spar off info-for-info and placing prices on their information. Also, Garibaldi and G’Kar do the same by cheating each other at “Mirror, Laser, Starweb”, a variation of “Rock, Paper, Scissors” and the source of this arc’s title. Garibaldi breaking into songs because the paralyzing gas makes him giddy is something I would have liked to have seen on the show.
What they got wrong: While Sheridan gets equal storytime this issue, the last story arc was also Garibaldi-centered. It would have been nice to give another character a shot.
Recommendation: While the story doesn’t seem as important as the previous arc, it’s still a fun story worth checking out if you’re a fan.
