They’ve done some crazy things to promote movies. Sometimes they backfire, like the infamous “Mooninite” pictures to promote the Aqua Teen Hunger Force movie. You know, where they put pictures of what looks like an early 80’s arcade game sprite flipping the bird around Boston and citizens had a panic attack to the point that the government wanted to arrest/sue people? Yeah, I don’t see it either, post 9-11 or not.

In the spirit of 9-11, I wonder if this plan was a good idea, either. Dressing up a series of RC planes to resemble flying humans, to promote the upcoming movie Chronicle. I have to say, though, that it’s pretty cool.

If you’ve seen my review of The Adventures of Captain Marvel (and yes, I’ve heard about what they’re doing at DC, I’ll get into that tomorrow) or the posting of King of the Rocket Men you’ve read about how they used a mannequin on a pulley system to simulate a man flying. Well, with a little work this might be a good alternative for the movie maker on a budget who can’t afford flying rigs but want to do something without computer effects. It just wouldn’t work up close.

However, if anyone in New York is still freaked out by the events of September 11th, 2001, I can see them being a bit panicked by this. Otherwise I wish I could have found video from anyone who happened to witness these events. All I found was this video. If anyone knows of any, please post them in the comments. And if you were one of the people who saw these “flying people” what was your reaction? Post that, too.

Oh, and it makes sense to show you the trailer for the movie they’re promoting.

Personally, a movie where a bunch of (no other way to say it) douchebags get superpowers doesn’t really impress me, although if someone wants to pay me to see and review it (or even grants me a media pass to review it) I’ll think about it. At least they have protagonists who are willing to fly, Smallville! It might turn out to be more interesting than I think so we’ll have to see. If I get some free time and money.
