After the explosion in More Than Meets The Eye #1, the Autobots continue to try and make peace with the returning unaligned Cybertronians. (Not that Metalhawk is making things easier with his propaganda.) The planet itself is still recovering and fighting back, while both the Decepticons and Prowl are pursuing their own plans; ones that may end with Bumblebee having to do something drastic to protect a civilian.
What they got right: While this still isn’t what I really want to see in a Transformer story, this is certainly the better of the two. While the Decepticons are still the Decepticons and Metalhawk is a total jerk, they’re still interesting characters and I want to see with them and see what they do next. The art is also the better of the two series.
What they got wrong: Here I though Costa had the biggest jerk Prowl this side of Simon Furman. I don’t like Barber’s version of Prowl, mostly because he’s continuing Furman and Costa’s version. We have the “buy numerous covers of the same comic to form a picture” nonsense again. Finally, why call this “Robots in Disguise”? They’re not in disguise. I know they’re just building off of the tagline, but the actual “Robots in Disguise” toyline and TV show did a better job with this. Maybe if this series was still set on Earth, although Costa ruined any chance of that working in this continuity. Nice job, Mike.
Recommendation: The better of the two series thus far. If you need a Transformers fix, consider this one.
