General Tomak, who in this series disagrees with Anderson’s findings and his use of G-Force, pumps the kids’ former psychologist. We get a look at the early training of Mark, Princess, and Tiny (Keyop was still being grown–they kept the “test tube baby” origin even if they dropped the weird speech pattern), plus Jason being Jason. However, the doctor is actually a plant by Anderson, to draw Tomak away from going after G-Force, even if Anderson has to put himself in the crosshairs.
The story is followed with pin-up art and Alex Ross’ sketchbook for the series, which we’ll start getting into tomorrow. There was also a “Battle Book”, an illustrated introduction to the series done in the style of a report to the President by Anderson. I didn’t review that, but I highly recommend it. It isn’t necessary, but it does clear up a few things about how things work in this version.
As for this 1/2 issue, if you do track down the full series, then this is a good comic to pick up to complete the series. You’ve seen me use this series for the Friday Night Fights (look through the “Feet of Fury” tournament) and caught my reviews of the two crossovers with Wildstorm’s run on Thundercats. (If you haven’t, pick up the Top Cow version, which is actually in canon with this series, and avoid the Wildstorm version, which hates my childhood.) The next batch of “Yesterday’s” Comics articles (when I don’t have brand new comics) will go through this series, which is how you do a remake of a classic favorite right. (Unlike the current Voltron comic from Dynamite Entertainment.)
