When the current Mechagodzilla crew investigates another monster attack, they find a “smog monster” we G-Fans know as Hedorah. However, Godzilla finds them both, and the Mecha-G team must decide which monster they’d rather fight.
What they got right: While the movie he comes from is quite frankly brain-numbing, Hedorah himself is an interesting monster and this issue shows how he can be done right. Of course, I also enjoy seeing Mechagodzilla in action.
What they got wrong: The story seems more focused on Mechagodzilla and its crew than on Hedorah. It’s their moral dilemma (of sorts) and they seem to be the focus more than Hedorah. Granted, Mechagodzilla has appeared in both Kingdom of Monsters and Gangsters & Goliaths, so he’s hardly had minor attention, which is the point of this miniseries–to focus on kaiju who haven’t really had their day in the sun. Hedorah’s a decent threat, but the story really isn’t about him.
Recommendation: A great story that continues to baffle me as to why this isn’t an ongoing alongside the main series (yet still disconnected from Kingdom of Monsters or whatever series spins off from it). Very much recommended for all Godzilla fans.

"OK, the next model has rear view mirrors."
