It turns out that it wasn’t Bumblebee but Ratbat that caused Horri-bull’s chip to explode. The Decepticons have actually overridden the Autobots chips and are preparing a coup, beginning with framing an unaligned Transformer for Bumblebee’s death. Prowl, with the help of Arcee, foils the plan and takes Ratbat out of the picture.
What they got right: We finally have an explanation for how Ratbat in this continuity went from being a corrupt senator to one of Soundwave’s “Cassettecon*” flunkies (not that I ever liked pre-tape Ratbat anyway). For a political intrigue story this is getting interesting.
What they got wrong: I’m not reading a Transformers comic for political intrigue. I’m reading it for a sci-fi war between Autobots and Decepticons.
Recommendation: For what it wants to be this is a decently told story. It’s what it wants to be that I have problems with.
(*”Cassettecon” is my term for Soundwave’s tapes, not an official one.)
