RE: New Teen Titans

Dear Mr. Man with a huge starship that could easily blast me to atoms,

It has come to my attention that you plan to review The New Teen Titans anti-drug awareness comic, a co-production of DC and Keebler. What you may not be aware of, as (outside of accidental trackback spamming) you have only visited my humble site once to my knowledge, is that I have also reviewed this comic and gave it a highly positive review. I liked the original character, the Protector, and I’m glad the New 52 hasn’t seen fit to screw him up the way it has so many others (I’m looking at you, Firestorm!) It’s also my first introduction to Starfire (and written/drawn by her creators) and when it comes to Roy’s drug issues I’ll put this above Rise of Arsenal any day. Then again there are fanfics I would probably put over Rise of Arsenal.

Now this really all speculation on my part based on Atop The Fourth Wall operates. We don’t always agree on comics. For example, in the strip up there Leon mentions your review of Adventures of Kool-Aid-Man #1 (not THE Kool-Aid-Man, like The Batman or something, just Kool-Aid-Man). You thought it was an illogical, silly way to promote a soft drink mix with stories of questionable science. I tried to figure out why that was a bad thing, but considering what I grew up with I developed an appreciation for cheese and silly things.

I’m not asking you to pretend to like the Teen Titans PSA Comic if you don’t. I don’t have a problem with you making jokes, and since this “airs” tomorrow I suppose you wouldn’t be able to change anything anyway even if my opinion mattered enough for a re-write, which would just be silly. The framing device of the kids telling their drug stories (which by the way circumvents the usual shortcut in these kinds of stories where one hit gives you the ups and downs of later addiction) was in my opinion well done, and Speedy’s was rather heartfelt, and I hadn’t even heard about the drug-addicted tales at the time I read this comic. I will be watching closely to see how you review it and based on your response I may end up doing a counter article/video or just posting the link to that review in your comments section (which of course you’d have to approve) if time allows and situation warrants.

I wish you good luck in your review and while I will not tell you how to feel or react to it I felt the need to make my case.

• The Clutter Reports: Didn’t post anything there this week except a notice that I didn’t get anything done this week. The new work hours mean a readjustment of my schedule. Heck, I haven’t even seen The Avengers yet, and I actually have money.
• Reviewers Unknown: The last of the Joe/TF crossover reviews over there with Unicron and Cobra-La getting involved. The latter took a lot of guts on Devil’s Due’s part. That means next week I’ll have to go over something else.

The only way to get anyone to witness Eggman’s rap career debut.

Next week is going to be real easy. I only picked up two comics (unless you count a graphic novel) and one of them is a reprint comic. That means only one Best Scene nomination. For the “Yesterday”s Comics to fill out the week we’ll have the remaining issues of the first major storyline for the Marvel Transformers comic. After that there was one multi-parter until the event (back when events meant something) involving the Underbase, but that’s a long way off. I’m also hoping to finish editing my FCBD interview video and another Captain PSA strip. Going to be a busy week.
