Kid Vigilante and former supervillain sidekick Ladybug make a special trip to “visit” his comatose brother. Meanwhile, Yoshimi travels to Micro-Tokyo, where they don’t take kindly to a girl piloting a robot, to retrieve yet another item. All this happens before the events depicted in the first few pages, where the new world president and former American Spirit (darn, another patriotic hero name I can’t use in my comics) orders Kid Vigilante shot…by another member of the Club!
What they got right: They may have a darker theme but there are still bright colors where it makes sense. The action is well done and there’s a good backstory to these characters.
What they got wrong: …which I would LOVE to hear sometime! I know little about these characters or the mysterious event which led to the death of the world’s heroes (which is the point of the story, but we don’t even know what they know). Who are these kids? Why does Micro-Tokyo exist and what is it exactly? All I’m really asking for is one or two pages of either exposition in-story or some kind of file like the early issues of Batman: The Brave & The Bold, just to explain a little bit about what’s going on.
Recommendation: While I don’t know a lot about this world’s history, I can at least follow what’s going on without it, unlike Kirby: Genesis. Still recommended but I know Landry reads the site. A few character/location profiles in the back of the book wouldn’t hurt, man.
