After rescuing a sub Superman returns home where Lois reads Clark the riot act for not picking up Lucy. However, a new supervillain, Anguish, appears to have daddy issues as well as superpowers and as if Superman needs another distraction a blogger claims proof that a man other than Clark Kent is the true identity of Superman–and this guy has a wife and daughter.

What they got right: It’s fun to see how the Daily Planet staff gets used here (except for Morgan Edge, who turns out to be a moron by running this false rumor). I like the new villainess, Anguish, and I’m curious to see how she gets used.

What they got wrong: Two subplots too many. Fellow blogger and Friday Night Fighter Notintheface theorizes that the submarine subplot that seems to go nowhere was part of a larger plan that may or may not happen with Scott Lobdell soon to replace Giffen as the writer.  The subplot with the blogger who is convinced this other guy is Superman is lame and I’m guessing making him a family man could–and this could just be being way too cynical about the current DC brain trust–be used to take a shot at the Supermarriage. Hopefull I’m wrong on this last part.

Recommendation: It’s not exactly Superman at its finest, but it feels like a Superman story on enough levels to recommend it.

And yet you’ve said everything writers who don’t get Superman wrongly thinks about Superman.
