Mega Man #14
Archie Comics (August, 2012)
‘SPIRITUS EX MACHINA” part 2: “First, Do No Harm” WRITER: Ian Flynn PENCILER: Jonathan Hill INKER: Gary Martin COVER ART: Patrick “Spaz” Spaziante COLORIST: Matt Herms LETTERER: John Workman EDITOR: Paul Kaminski ASSISTANT EDITOR: Vincent Lovallo
The Emerald Spears’ leader hopes to convince Doctors Light, Cossack, and LaLinde that they’re wrong about advanced AI robotics, but they’re really just giving Mega Man, Pharaoh Man, Elec Man, and Quake Woman time to disarm the bomb. However, the Spears’ second-in-command has a personal vendetta against the robots and doesn’t care if humans–especially the three top Roboticists–die with their machines. Meanwhile, Wily finds a machine in the ruins that is able to restore his Robot Masters as well as create his new batch—and finds a more ancient Robot Master.
What they got right: Ooooh, a mystery that may well have a payoff in the next arc or two. Watching Mega Man outhink the Emerald Spears (something I hope he takes into his next robot battle) was fun, and there are some good characters in here. Even the bad guys are fleshed out without the usual baggage a lot of writers seem to think that entails.
What they got wrong: I know you don’t want to get bogged down with conversation but I kind of wish I could have seen more of the debate between Harvey and the doctors.
Recommendation: Even if you’re not into the games you really should check this comic out.

Strategy.
