I realize that nobody in this issue is actually in Sega’s games, but that doesn’t make the Sega variant any less wrong.
Sonic Universe #42
Archie Comics (September, 2012)
“Unsung Heroes” Part 2 “The Terror Below” WRITER: Ian Flynn PENCILER: Tracy Yardley INKER: Jim Amash LETTERER: Jack Moelli COLORIST: Steve Downer SELECTED COVER ART: Sega ASSISTANT EDITOR: Vincent Lovallo EDITOR: Paul Kaminski By the way, I didn’t select the cover. It was the one in my pull list and I didn’t realize it was a variant cover.
Elias, Leeta, and Lyco follow Naugus into the hole where Castle Acorn stood until the Battle Bird Armada blew it up. There they find Naugus in a hidden chamber (which I’m betting is where the Source, a magic pit mentioned in earlier stories, is). They also learn a few other secrets when Naugus finds out they’re there.
What they got right: It’s nice to see Elias being productive and I mentioned in the last Sonic The Hedgehog review that I wanted to see Leeta and Lycos return. Well, there they are.
What they got wrong: However, the girls are drawn about the same size as all the other Mobians, although I recall them being a bit taller. It makes them look younger than even the main title appearance.
Recommendation: I’m still enjoying this story and feel it’s worth picking up or at least checking out.
No one moment qualified for “Best Scene”. There were no major stand-outs.
